Legal Question in Family Law in California

Is it possible to change venue for a post divorce hearing? The divorce is final but there are some pending issues. I live in California and the hearing is in Arkansas. I have very limited income and it is a severe hardship to have to travel across the country for a two hour hearing that might be continued (again). What recourse do I have?

The original court that finalized the case would be where the case is heard unless the parties can stipulate to moving the courthouse to another location. If the mother or the child still live near that courthouse, then they would most likely want to keep the case in that jurisdiction. If no parties live there anymore then you would have a more reasonable request to move the jurisdiction for the case.

For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.

As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
