Legal Question in Family Law in California

CPS child neglect/abuse

I'm scared. I attempted to enter a store twice to purchase a birthday gift for my wife with my 2 sons. My boys are difficult kids, one with adhd and the other is very strong willed. We attempted the first gift purchasing excursion and it ended with my younger, strong willed son trying to run off giggling and making a dash for the door toward the parking lot (among many other frustrating displays of terrible behavior.) We went to the car for a talk about consequences without purchasing the gift. We did this scenario twice (this store does not have shopping carts in which to contain them.) Being at my wits end and wanting to get the gift, I made a stupid mistake and left them in the car so I could run back in to get the gift. I have not done this before and the car was right in front of this small store with windows 1/4 open. As i was in line waiting to purchase the gift, someone came in and said there are two kids in a car out front unattended. My wits came back, and I ran to the car realizing I was an idiot and we left, the kids were fine but I felt like an evil dad. I received a letter from the district attorney that I had to go to court over this incident. I'm a good dad and love my boys , Help!

Get an attorney fast! Do not go in alone, even if you have to sell something.

It would be advisable to consult and retain a lawyer for representation in this matter. The charges in these types of matters can be very serious.
