Legal Question in Family Law in California

My husband is in a custody battle for his three children the mother has abandoned the two older children twice and we currently have full custody while she has visitation however he shares 50/50 custody of his eight year old son. He recently filed for sole custody of all three children based on her in ability to adhere to child custody court orders. During mediation the mediator did not have copy of his decoration, in addition, she was leading his ex-wife with statements such as "so this is what you meant and this is what you were doing", she was making negative verbal comments toward my husband and on one occasion actually told his ex-wife that she was so sorry that she had to go through this. During mediation his ex-wife lied profusely and when my husband expressed this to the mediator and tried to show her the proof she did not want to see it. when my husband asked her to speak with his girls who are 14 and 17 she got angry with him however she did agree to see them on the 11th of January. She he request another mediator or should he just hope for the best when he goes to court on the 9th of February. His ex-wife currently has an attorney but this far we have not been able to afford one as I have lost my job due to the economy and his ex-wife will not help with any bills concerning the children.
