Legal Question in Family Law in California

the judge doesn't know!!!!!!

Can a judge in california decide for child support and visitation for a baby that lives outside of the country? baby lives in brazil with mom and dad lives in california. parents went to court but judge didn't know if she could do anything about the case, if there is a legislation for this type of situation. parents have another meeting in the court in a couple of months.

This is a complex area of the law. You should contact an attorney that has knowledge of family law and international law. Many more facts that you did not include would affect the answer. Such as did California courts have jurisdiction over the child, and how long has the child been in Brazil. Only by discussing all of the facts of your case can a course of action be developed.

The judge has no jurisdiction over a baby that lives in another country unless the baby was taken from this jurisdiction without permission and is being ordered to bring it back.
