Legal Question in Family Law in California

Judgement against spouse for act commited before marriage

I am currently single with substantial assets. If I marry my fiancee and she is subsequently sued for something that she did before the marriage will any of the assets that I bring into the marriage be subject to attachment?

I will be building a house for cash on a lot that we both own as joint tennants.

In a general sense, you can control or eliminate the accumulation of community property through a pre-nuptial agreement, and thus distance yourself from her creditors.

For a specific opinion regarding your individual circumstances, I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!
