Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have been using my married name for all ID as I didn't have a copy of my birth certificate. I am now divorced but have still not been able to establish my maiden name as my birth name. Now I want to take an ocean cruise, but I need a passport, and that requires a birth certificate. How do I go about fixing this?

The county where you were born should have a birth certificate for you. In California it is about $12 to get a certified copy.

If you were the President of the United States, you could tell them your birth certificate is irrelevant. Since you will not be leaving the United States on Air Force One, however, you will have to contact the county where you were born, and ask for a certified copy.
