Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have been paying spousal support for over 14 years. I lost my job in Sept 2009 and have not worked since. My ex is taking me back to court for arrears that total about 25,000.00. This is in Orange County Court where I tryed to get the support terminated or lowered because of my unemployment and the judge simply said I had to pay her. How can I pay when I have no income. What is the judge looking for from me? What does the judge expect me to do if I dont have the money or a job?

If you are exercising every effort to find employment and cannot, the court must modify your prospective ( future) child support to reflect that. If you are requesting a forgiveness or reduction in existing arrearages, ths compromise can only be achieved with the cooperation of the recipient parent. I urge you to meet with a skilled family law attorney to explore your legal options.
