Legal Question in Family Law in California

I am a single parent. My daughter is 8 years old and has my last name, which is my maiden name. I plan to get married soon and would like to change her name to my new husband's last name. Her biological father has seen her once in her entire life and has not had contact with her in 2 years. He is only paying child support because the courts are making him. I am in California by the way.
