Legal Question in Family Law in California

My son has full legal & physical custody of his son. Can he ADD me (the grandmother) as a legal guardian without giving up his custody....so we can BOTH have the right to sign medical, educational forms, etc.

Not by making you a guardian, both because that would divest him of rights and raise issues the boy's mother might take advantage of. If all you need is to be able to sign forms, however, a good power of attorney should do the trick.

If you have your grandson temporarily in your custody, an emergency caregiver affidavit is supposed to legally allow you to be able to get medical care and education for the child. But to be a true legal guardian would have to be approved by the court.
