Legal Question in Family Law in California

Storage Unit Containing Ex Husbands Items

My now ex-husband and I shared a storage unit that has since gone to auction. When I moved my items out of the storage unit in February 2001 my ex-husbands items were still in the storage unit. I could not end the contract with the storage company due to his items being in the unit. I had verbally asked my ex-husband to go with me the storage company to switch the names on the contract. I was the sole name on the lease. He ignored my request. I stopped payments to the storage unit and in May 2001 the items went to auction due to no payment. When I recieved a letter from the storage company informing me of this, I forwarded the letter and it's contents to my ex-husband. Now my ex-husband is asking for his items back and if I can not provide him with them is asking for a monitary compensation. Can I be held responsible to pay him a monitary compensation or can any legal action be taken against me?

Re: Storage Unit Containing Ex Husbands Items

No. He knew of the storage unit and the consequences of not paying for the storage. All documentation will be necessary if he takes you to small claims court.
