Legal Question in Family Law in California

Time limit for filing Proof of Service

I just have one question. I have filed for divorce and just had the sheriffs serve my spouse with the petition, summons and other paperwork. Is there a time limit for me to file the Proof of Response with the court? I was under the impression that the Sheriffs will send it to the court directly, until I received it in the mail.

Re: Time limit for filing Proof of Service

The proof of service must be filed with the court before a default can be taken or before a hearing. Take a copy of the proof of service to court with you when attending any hearing.
