See if you can watch a similar hearing before your trial in the same department. It is best to have a short written brief as to the case and to make an opening and closing argument. For documents you have to ask it be marked for identification, show it to the witness to them state what it is, and then ask that it be introduced into evidence. You should consult with a family law attorney to find out what will happen and what arguments you should use and anticipate. Do not be penny wise and pound foolish.

I agree. I have had the painful task of undoing all the damage a person did while representing themselves and trying to save money. It ends up costing more than if they had hired me in the first place, and it is just terrible! You could also ask an attorney to prepare documents for you, but you would represent yourself in court.
