Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I bought a truck from my brother 20 years ago and never paid the whole thing off. He owns a business, and says it was 'on the books'. Do I have the right to see the books to see if it was on them? He always just pocketed the money when I paid him. If it was never on the books, does it have to be repaid. Can he sue me for money due him?

Whether or not it "is on the books" really doesn't concern you, and you probably do not have any right to see the books. That would have to do with his company and him. If you bought the truck you owe for the truck You do not get a free truck, or have to pay less, because it is not on the books. Twenty years, however, is a long time and perhaps there are other options.
