Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

California Penal Code Section 490.5

I just received a demand letter from the attorneys for Six Flags Theme Park for $250 because my 15 yr old was apprehended for shoplifting. I called the number and asked for a copy of the case report because I want to contest it and was told that it could only be released to an attorney. Basically, my kid was waiting for her friend outside one of the stores-friend came out and asked my kid to go with her to the bathroom-before entering the stall, the friend asked my daughter to hold her stuff for her-after the friend came out, both girls were approached by an undercover agent-both girls insisted that my kid had no knowledge that the items were stolen-undercover said she saw my kid take the stuff but changed her story when my daughter responded that she had not entered the store. The agent also confiscated my daughter's season pass. Must I retain an attorney to contest this? How should I proceed?

You should consult with an attorney to review all of the facts and request a copy of the security tape from 6 Flags.
