Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

(Ex)Employer made verbal offer/agreement for partnership in business

Last year, while employed @ an auto repair shop, the owner(s) took the shop manager (partner) and myself to dinner and 1) offered me 1/3 partnership. Meaning any profits made after beginning of 2003, would be split 3 ways. 2) with the main goal; selling us the business within the next couple of years. All parties agreed. No contracts were drawn up, however the owner publicly acknowledged/introduced both of us as his partners &/or future owners of business. We both were let go @ different times for frivolous reasons with no mention of due compensation as had been agreed upon. Several people will back me if I am to take a stand. Do we have a case? Is this the correct area of law for this matter? And if so, is there a statue of limitations to proceed?

Thanks for your consideration.

A Partnership can be created orally, as yours, but enforcement is then a problem. With sufficient witnesses, you might be able to successfully sue for breach of the partnership and your share of the funds.
