Legal Question

jetski accident

a stranger let mygirlfriend and i ride his jetskis 2 weeks ago, we crashed, she was injured, one jetski was damaged, he said not to worry about the damages, a week later i received a letter at work from him saying he wants full compensation for the damages($2000) and he came into my work and demanded money or he'll sue.

Am i liable? What are my rights?
