Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Missing Dog

Recently we found out that our dog was picked up in front of our house (he dug a hole under the fence) by a person on their way to work. They dropped the dog of at the humane society in another town. Meanwhile we have been looking for the dog for ~ a month. Checked local dog shelter and local human society, police, put out posters...the humane society took the dog, knowing it came from another town. Spayed the dog (a $1600 mastiff) and put it up for adoption. Dog was adopted. At this time they refuse to give me my dog back and refuse to pay me $1600....this seems like a legal way to steal a dog? Is there anything I can do?

Re: Missing Dog

It would appear that speaking with the people in possession of the new dog would make sense, if possible. Retaining adequate representation may help move things along favorably when dealing with the shelter.

Sue the b*s. And I presume you had the dog microchip'd, bring proof of that to court.

Fix the hole under the fence before getting another dog.
