Notary Signatrure - Date of Signing

Is it legal and proper for a Notary to add the date for a client after a client has left the building? (the client forget to put the date down)

I see no problem with the notary doing that if, in fact, it is the correct date. You might compare the signature to the date and signature in the notary's ledger to make sure that the date is accurate. The notary is not altering the signature which the notary is acknowledging. (Perhaps my colleagues might have a different view.)

Improper? Yes if it not the correct date. If it is misused in some way for fraud or harm, then you can take action.
