Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

q re:extortion

An exboyfriend owes me over 20K. He defaulted in February on the loan-- there is a promissory note which is notarized. Says if I file a lawsuit, he'll ''bury'' me-- (file a countersuit based on some emotional garbage during our relationship which ended 2 years ago My attorney is aware and actually constructed the note.) Today (Saturday) the ex told me that if I give him $500, he won't hurt me. I asked him if he'd put it in writing and he agreed.

Is that extortion? I'm not the only one he has scammed. I know that for a fact.

Please follow your attorney's advice as he is most familiar with the facts. You should report the threats to the police as these statements would now be considered terrorist threats.
