Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

receiving early payment/partial payment from suit

I was involved in a malpractice suit when I was 6 (I am 23 now). The two lawyers and my father came to an agreement of compensation, and the judge made it so. My question is is it possible to receive partial payment now to pay bills and other obligations, or is there something that says early payment

can't be received? Would I need to go to court, or can I deal w/the insurance company directly?

Re: receiving early payment/partial payment from suit

Although your message is not clear on this point, it sounds like the settlement established an annuity which makes periodic payments to you. Whether you can petition to change this arrangement will depend upon the text of the settlement and the judge's order, so I cannot answer you without this information.

However, there are a number of companies which will purchase your future payments for a lump sum. You may want to look into this option if you are eager to have more money now.
