Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

being sued for legal fees

my parents are being sued in ca for legal fees. They sued for custody of my nephew when his mother filed to move out of state. Neither party clearly won the case, she was denied a move, but retains custody as long as she stays in california.

They have just been served paperwork saying she has filed suit for legal fees.

After going to court last summer, they are broke and on the verge of bankruptcy.

Can they be made to pay $9K+?

Re: being sued for legal fees

If the mother wants to recover her legal fees, she probably has to seek them from the family court as part of the case in which your parents sought custody rather than in a new lawsuit. I suggest re-submitting this question under Family Law so that attorneys with the relevant expertise can give you better guidance.
