Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Old green card

I am a CAD citizen with a permanent alien card, issued Denver 1976, who was advised by an attorney 1.5 years ago that it did not require updating. Now DMV says it must have an expiry date & be updated. This card was issued based on marriage to a Dr., who is since deceased. I am the sole custodial caregiver for a small child, ordered by the court to remain in this area, where I have been residing for 1.5 years to provide care. iNet says update takes 3 months; how can 'hardhsip' be proven & update occur immediately to avoid problem/possible deportation?

Re: Old green card

You have four choices: renew the green card and/or apply for U.S. citizenship, or research prior lawyer's authority. Meanwhile, you'll perhaps drive with an expired drivers license, but you will receive receipt of application for updated card or citizenship in the meanwhile if you decide on one of those options.

Rules change as to which green cards are valid and which are not. For further information, feel free to contact me offline at [email protected] or check out my website at http://www.yardum-hunter.com.
