Fire in apartment

I have renters insurence....but they only cover personal property....should the owners of the apartment cover the damage to the kitchen area?

Generally, the owners' insurance should cover the kitchen. However, the ultimate answer to your question may depend on why the damage occurred. If the occupants were acting negligently or intentionally in starting the fire, then although the owners have insurance, you may be responsible for repairing the home. This means that according to the terms of the insurance contract, if the fire was your fault, even though it is reported to the owner's insurance company, the insurance company may reserve the right to hold you accountable for the fire. However, if the fire started due to something electrical or a cause that had nothing to do with you, it would be the responsibility of the owner or his/her insurance.

Yes. But if your negligence caused the fire your insurance may defend and indemnify you.
