Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

copyright permission from author but its also on a website

I have permission from the author for an article I first read on a web site she wrote it for (I think she wrote specifically for that web site)

The author gave me permission to reprint on my web site. Do I need permission to reprint from the web site publisher as well?

Thank You

Howard

Probably not. The copyright is in the author in the first place, but can be assigned or sold to someone else. Presumably if the author had assigned her copyright, she would have so informed you. It's probably a good idea to check with her to confirm that she hasn't assigned or sold her copyright.
