Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

My father has written music technique books with a particular publishing company that is still in business today. However, approximately 15-20 years ago, they stopped printing his books. As his daughter and heir to his estate, how do I take the right back and publish/copy these books for print? I still have all of the contracts that were written in the 70's.

The copyrights will still be valid, so questions regarding the right to publish or copy will no doubt depend upon what the agreements assigning the copyrights say........you do not have rights by virtue of inheritance, or from failure of the publishing company to publish, if the contracts are still in force.
