Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

Intellectual law

I have a idea/invention...are there lawyers that can take me through the whole process from trademarking/patented to sales and managing millions of dollars in revenue and profit? Or, do I need several lawyers who specialize in different areas?

Re: Intellectual law

Different lawyers is probably your best bet, both from a quality and an economy standpoint. Lawyers who are expert in a field can do the required tasks faster because there is little or no learning curve and the documents they'll need to draft already reside in their word processors. A patent application must be prepared and filed by a member of the patent bar, but they would be ill-equipped to handle, say, issuance of securities or negotiating your commercial lease on that 100,000 square foot manufactoring plant and warehouse.

You might find all the specialties under one roof at a large firm, but unless you are well capitalized from the start, you'll probably have to shop for each specialist.

Think of it in terms of using doctors. You wouldn't use an obstetrician for cataract surgery.
