advance rent

To secure an apartment I payed rent 6 months in advance, because I had money from my parents death. I am unemployed and my credit is bad. Is it legal to ask for so much rent in advance?

Yes. If the situations were reversed, and you were the landlord, wouldn't you want an unemployed tenant with bad credit to pay substantially in advance?
