Damages for withholding most of security deposit

In CA are damages 2 or 3 times the

amount of the security deposit? I've

seen both. Is it based on entire deposit

or only the portion improperly withheld?

You are confused. Damages are whatever one party is entitled to in court, not the amount of deposit.

I gather you think the amount of the security deposit controls, and it does not.
