Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in California

Can binding arbitration be appealed?

My son was injured at birth, Erb's palsy. The doctor was sued. The night before arbitration, my lawyer told me that he wasn't going to settle and if he did, it would be a large sum. At arbitration, it was totally different. I am African American and he said I shouldn't sue a white doctor, he also said, if I wanted to go any further, he would not represent me and I had to pay him upfront for all his fees. I settled for chicken scratch and have been troubled ever since. Is there any thing I can do to appeal the arbitration or sue the lawyer? (It's been a year)
