Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

My boyfriend gave me his laptop computer to use months ago before we went through a breakup in August 2009. Now he had admitted that the computer is on the same network as other computers that are linked, and it is possible for him to see everything I do on the computer laptop at this other location. I wouldn't mind if it was just my boyfriend involved, but thinking that his mother and father can also watch my every computer move, since August 2009 or even earlier, is a little sick to me. Can anything be done to protect my privacy which has been bugged without me knowing since last year ?

Also, I found a female room mate from craigslist to share my one bedroom apartment with whilst I am an adult student and I am now worried that she is also invading my privacy by reporting on my whereabouts to someone else. I have asked her to sign a paper saying she has no involvement with anyone from my boyfriend's side of family or friends. But if I am correct and this female room mate is spying on me for someone else, can anything be done to punish her for agreeing to do this?

Oh, Brother. Does it never end with this computer spying stuff? Get rid of the computer immediately. Break it, throw it in the ocean or what have you......then move to another state! Seriously, get some new friends. There's really no case here.

I respectfully disagree with attorney Iadevaia. Certainly you would not want to ever again entrust your data to this computer, and you may wish to have the computer inspected by a computer forensics analyst to see if there is any spy software on it. (Typical anti-virus scans will not detect this software in many instances. Also, a forensics analyst can give expert testimony about what was found.) It is both a crime, and a good civil lawsuit, if you were in fact cyber-stalked. You should make a report with your local police, and if you are lucky they will offer to have the computer inspected. I don't know what prompted you to accuse your new roommate of involvement in all of this. Maybe you are just paranoid and you need a tinfoil hat. You can make your own tinfoil hat, see http://www.zapatopi.net/afdb .
