Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

I found out my ex-boyfriend used my car and was involved in a hit and run with no injury, I did not find out about this until my insurance company contacted me. I gave my insurance company his phone number but he is not being cooperative. I know he has several bench warrants out for his arrest for an unrelated matter, battery. I don't know where he currently lives but I do know where he works and I can easily find out his schedule. Apparently law enforcement has been looking for him at his work place but he somehow always manages to flee before they can arrest him. He doesn't have a valid driver's license, I believe it was taken away years ago. Would it be wise to inform the police? How would that affect the hit and run situation? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, tell the police but ask them not to tell him how they found out about his schedule [his employer should give it to them]. The guy is trouble and you should cut all ties with him. If he used your car without your permission it was car theft, which you need to claim to avoid having to pay for the damages yourself.
