Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Parent Legal Responsiblity on Son's Accidents

My 19-year old son has been excluded by my insurance company for coverage under my umbrella liability policy due to his driving record. I am covering him under my auto policy. He is away on campus but drives my car during college breaks. What can I do to protect my assets in the event of a severe accident when he drives my car? Can he get title to his own car but I am not sure if he will get insurance on his own? What is my best scenario in terms of shielding my assets from lawsuit? He has 2 moving violations in 2005 and 1 no-claim minor fender bender accident. Thanks.

See if he can get his own insurance policy and then have him buy his own car. That will limit your exposure and he will have to be responsible for himself.

If your son is driving your car on your insurance policy, you need to get the highest policy limits that you can get. This will reduce the exposure of your property in case of an accident.
