A settlement value depends on a tremendous number of things, but to try and simplify, it's the percentage of fault times the extent of injury. California is comparative fault, so if you have a share of fault, say 20%, then you would only get 80% of the value for the extent of your injury. The real trick is figuring out the value for the extent of the injury. That depends on the nature of the injury, the amount of medical bills, lost wages, interference with daily enjoyment of life, etcetera etcetera. There is no formula for that. It's an art, not a science.
