Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

If Landlord Violates Rights

My landlord came to the apartment unexpectedly requesting that a parking spot was to be designated for his daughter which happens to be my roomate. After showing him that it was not in the lease agreement I signed, he asked to borrow my copy of the lease agreement and assured me that he would be right back with a copy. After a few minutes, he called back stating that I would not get a copy of the lease ageement I let him borrow because a new lease agreement is being written. He also stated that this lease ageement would have to be signed by me no matter what. What actions should I take and what are me rights on this matter? Do I have to sign a new contract? Does the landlord have to provide me a copy of the original lease? If so, how long can the landlord wait before he gives it to me?

Re: If Landlord Violates Rights

from the facts given so far, your landlord's conduct sounds illegal and you may have causes of action against him/her.

email me more facts regardind the terms and duration of your original lease to the best of your recollection, i.e is it month to month or longterm? i may be able to assist you legally before your landlord tries to make you sign a "new lease" agreement.
