Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Can i be pebnalized or fined for stopping payt on checks if i am not getting loan modification activity? i am greatly suspicious of this company, fidelity legal services in california. i cannot get anyone to contact us, and we have not authorized anyone to get info from the account yet. the ca bbb has 98 complaints against them--87 of them have been unanswered. do i have rights in ohio that extend to ca?

If you believe you have not received service as agreed upon and you have tried in good faith to contact them, then stop payments. The worst they can do is to demand payments and sue you, but then you have a chance to argue in small-claims court (if they have them in Ohio or equivalent) that this company has not done anything in your case. So many of these outfits are scams in California and the Attorney General is cracking down on them, that it's probably likely that this company is a scam, too. You probably could convince the judge to order them to return all your money. There are honest loan modification companies out there but it's so hard to find a good one.
