Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

My sister moved in with her boyfriend two months ago. They both signed a lease agreement on a house. He is now moving out due to them breaking up. If my sister pays her half of the lease is he still obligated to pay his half? Or would my sister be responsible for the entire rent?

Your sister must pay the entire amount if she wants to continue living there -- the landlord does not care who pays what percentage as long as the entire rent is paid. However, if the lease is defaulted, the landlord can file suit against both of them, and both of them are jointly responsible for the judgment for the amount that would still be owed under the lease.
