Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in California

I have a friend that is being sexually harassed at work by the owner of the company. She is very uncomfortable with the situation and doesn't know what to do. He is constantly hugging, feeling, kissing her but is very careful no one else sees. What can she do?

She can and should consult with an employment attorney. Tell her to go to CELA.com (California Employment Lawyers Association) and find attorneys in her area with whom she can consult (click on Member Search in left column).

I agree that she should consult with an attorney on this. Sending an e-mail saying that his uninvited conduct/sexual advances are not acceptable and must stop would create a written record that your friend could save to document her attempts to informally resolve the matter. Such touchings are not just assaults and batteries but clearly sexual harassment. While quitting a job may not be an appealing option it may be something to consider if the advances continue. A statement that she will report the conduct might help or the boss may simply retaliate and terminate your friend but I believe that this would be a wrongful termination. It would help to know how many employees work at the company.
