Legal Question in Tax Law in California

I owe the IRS money, but I can not afford to pay it all at once. They have filed a lien against me. Should I get a Tax Attorney to help me? I keep getting lots of notices from Debt Relief agencies saying I need to contact them immediately. They are stressing me out! The amount is over $20,000.

Good question. Your situation is a stressful one wherein there are lots of companies soliciting for your business. Some reputable and some not. You should note that there is a difference between debt relief agencies and a tax attorney, as not all debt relief companies employ tax attorneys, or any attorneys at all. A tax attorney is likely more educated and skilled in negotiations than non-attorneys offering debt relief services. Please note that I am biased in this regard as I am an attorney. However, with the majority of debt relief companies you will likely be speaking to a commissioned sales person that is perhaps more interested in your fees than properly resolving your tax issue. Additionally, the sales person you are speaking to is likely not the person who will be handling your case, this too is a major red flag.

In regards to your tax issue, you need to do something about it. If you cannot afford to pay the $20,000 that you owe to the IRS, an experienced tax attorney should provide you with a free consultation to discuss your options available for resolving your tax issue. Based on the options presented by the attorney, the decision to hire the attorney will be yours to make. If you do hire an experienced tax attorney to resolve your tax issue, the attorney will step into your shoes in fighting the IRS and help relieve the IRS stress you are dealing with. http://www.mwattorneys.com
