Legal Question in Tax Law in California

tax liability from marrigage to spouse owing back taxes

If I marry a man who owes considerable back taxes, will I then also become obligated for these back taxes as the spouse (both IRS and State of California)?

Not for his seperate property. The problem if you intertwine finances (and, really, even if you do not) there will be difficulties. NOW is the time for your future spouse to address the back taxes. They might be able to be greatly reduced.
