Other company logos on website

Is it illegal to use another company's logo on a website to list the company as a client.

For example, I am building a website for a painting company and I want to use i.e Shell logo on website to list clients.

True statements of fact are protected by the First Amendment, but the best advice is to get permission. You should never use a company or person's name to imply an endorsement of your product or service without consent.
