Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

car accidents with no major damages and a $1,600.00 bill

i was involved in an car accident. there were no injuries, and no major damages. at the time i wasn't insured and the other people in the other vehicle filed a claim to their insurance company. now they want me to pay $1,600 however i know the damage wasn't more than $500 or else we would have informed the dmv in the first place. now they are threatning to take me to court but i dont want to go unless i know i can at least get them to lower the amount i have to pay. i don't know if to inform the dmv myself first and get my license suspended for not being insured or pay

You had no insurance, you lose. Lucky you that the bill wasn't far higher.
