Legal Question in Workers Comp in California
do local law enforcement in force workmans comp regulations and rules on a business owner� I was approached by a city detective from the district attorney's office telling me to get rid of the help I had because I did not carry workmans comp for them. does the local law enforcement have any way of shutting my business down or is it something that is directly handled by the workmans comp board?

While it is illegal for an employer not have comp insurance, i have not heard of law enforcement chasing workers away from a company for not being insured. That aside, it is foolish not to have comp insurance regardless. Run to your nearest broker and buy it, fast.
