What does it mean when your lawyer says he is working for you on a contingency basis

Your lawyer will receive a percentage share of any amount he is successful in winning for you in the litigation. You need to have a written agreement which clearly defines the terms of the contingency contract. If the lawyer does not have a written agreement signed by you he/she may not be able to keep any portion of the settlement proceeds or the collected judgment.
