Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

I don't remeber but was told I took her car

I was visiting a friend in colorado. We were drinking and she gave me an ambien. I do not recall but I took her car and ran it off the road luckily for me no one was hurt. Her car is totaled and they are trying to press charges for stealing her car. My question is can they press charges for taking the car? (this happened two weeks ago) And also can They make me pay for them to get a new car?

Yes to both questions. But wait and see.

Good luck.

You can be charged with auto theft. You can use the ambien argument as an affirmative defense (how could you INTEND to steal if you were asleep?).

Further, you write "And also can They make me pay for them to get a new car?" -who is "they"? -who is "them"? The car owner? Her car insurance co.? The Colorado district attorney? The Colorado attorney general? The Colorado department of revenue? Your car insurance co.? Your local district attorney? Your state's attorney general? Your state's department of revenue? Her bookie? Your bartender? Are "they" and "them" the same people?
