Legal Question in DUI Law in Colorado

New Colorado License with 3 MA DUIs

I bought a house in Colorado this past March 2007. In March 2006 I was convicted in Massachusetts for DUI - second offence. I have done all the court ordered treatments required. I will be on probation till March 2008. In total I have 3 DUIs. All in MA. First in 1973, second in 1984, and the last March 2006.

Even though I was convicted of 2nd by courts, the MA DMV has included all DUIs (3) and loss of license is 8 years in MA. So I will not even get a work license until March 2008 (w/interlock), and my MA license until 2014, and even then an interlock for 2 more years.

My question is, because I own a home in CO, when and how do I go about getting a CO license?

What lawyers will be best to assist me in Denver?

Thank you.

I have recently helped with one of these and I helped on one a few years ago. After one year of no driving, you can get a CO license, but still cannot drive in MASS.

After one year you may be able to get a license with and interlock. See http://colorado-dui.com/parts/driverlicensecompact.html

Re: New Colorado License with 3 MA DUIs

I just got a license on Friday for a fellow from CT with four DUI's. In order to qualify you must not drive for one year and be a resident of Colorado. You would then be eligible for a license probably with an interlock device. These licenses generally allow you to drive at any time, not just for work. The one catch is that some DMV hearing officer's require sobriety. Call me for more info 303.806.5104.

You'll probably have to wait a year here before you can legally do any kind of driving, even if it's just on your front lawn. Massachusetts appears to have less of a sense of humor about DUI than does Colorado.

Denver has a very good public transportation system. Until you've kicked your drinking problem for good, that might be a viable alternative.

The Denver woods are crawling with DUI lawyers. It won't be hard to find one.

Good luck, and I don't mean just with the DL.
