Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

CT Teachers Retirement and SSI

My ex-wife has received SSI on and off since 1995. We were divorced in 1995. Our decree states that she is to receive 50% of my retirement account (CT State Teachers Retirement)as of the date of the divorce. I plan to retire in 2004 or 2005. If she takes any of my retirement, how will this affect her SSI? The judge granted her alimony for life, in addition to 50% of my retirement, and I am responsible for some of her medical bills. Can I go back to court and get this changed?

Re: CT Teachers Retirement and SSI

I'd have to see the whole divorce decree, but my guess is that the alimony is modifiable as to amount, so you may have a shot there. The 50% of the pension is not modifiable.
