Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Connecticut

auto

A friend and I bought a vehicle together. The loan was taken out in their name and I am the sole driver and am in possesion of the vehicle as well as make all the payments. Do I have any rights, or recourse where the vehicle is concerned?

Re: auto

It's difficult to answer this question because we don't know what is in store for the vehicle. That is, what event is triggering this question? It may be the person in possession wants to sell the vehicle. It's also unknown who appears on the title to the vehicle. In any event, and at the most basic level, paying for the vehicle (making the loan payments) may give you some right to proceeds from a sale of the vehicle, as the courts generally hold that fairness allows for reimbursement. On the other hand, the person in possession has also gotten the use of the vehicle while the other person has not.

If you are selling the car, I would work out a deal with your friend and put it on paper so there's no question about the intended outcome.
