My Husband fell off a friends roof! 30 ft

My husband was helping his friend roof his house , (without pay), he slipped and fell 30 feet , he shattered his leg, broke his arm, we have acrued $60,000, in medical payments so far, my question is , a claim has been submitted to his isurance company , it has been 6 months now and they still havent made us an offer of anything... My husband has been out of work , collecting no money, we didnt have disability insuance... Do we need to hire a lawyer? They came the other day to bring us a check for 1000.00 , saying that was the coverage on his medical part they have to give us, but they wanted us to sign a paper , and we didnt accept the check nor sign it.. How long does something like this usually take?? Please help us , friday night we had another major catastrophe , our garage, pool , truck and part of our house burnt and our minds right now are not working that well ... thank you in advance , chlorine self ignited in the garage , thats how the fire started by the way.

You sound like you might need an attorney. You don't want to settle your husband's case, in any event, until his treatment has leveled off. What you're being offered in terms of money might be medical payment coverage that is available under the owner's homeowner's policy. If you want to talk about this and other issues, please give me a call.

Your husband has obviously had serious and significant medical injuries. The insurance company may very well not offer you a settlement in line with the injuries and lost income, etc. You should seriously consider retaining an attorney to represent you. In addition, you should not sign any waiver or other forms without consulting an attorney. Please call my office if you and your husband would like to come in for a consultation.
