Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in District of Columbia
Unemployment
Due to a hostile and threatening
work place after 20 years of service
to a private employer in the DC
area I was diagnozed with severe
depression and anxiety. Three
medical doctors stated in a letter
that I not return to the same job
or position. The employer was well
aware of the doctor's recommendations as well as ADA
reasonable accommodations which
they choose to igonore and stated
that either I return to the same job
or position, be fired or resign.
I order to get recover from this and
still being under doctor's care I choose to resign under forced and
involultary resignation. Friends have told me that in DC there are
laws that prohibit workplace hostility and that I should try and
apply for unemployment benefits.
Is this possible, and if so, where do
I go and do I just explain that I
was foreced under involuntary
resignation and medical advice
against returning to the same job
and the same superivor due to
severe depression and anxiety.

Re: Unemployment
Yes, you could apply to the DC agency responsible for processing DC unemployment claims, citing the reasons as to why you were forced to resign your position.
