Legal Question in Criminal Law in District of Columbia

D.C. and neighboring districts

I am writing a fictional story and I was wondering if the child of the Virginia senator (living in Alexandria VA) commited a crime, would he be tried under Alexandria VA jurisdiction or D.C.'s? Would it be different if the senator himself commited a crime? Who would try them and where would their trial be?

Re: D.C. and neighboring districts

The crime is investigated and prosecuted by the jurisdiction in which it takes place. That's the general principle. However, in some international situations this rule is not followed. Such as the international tribunal in the Hague.
